Painting Derek Jarman's Cottage In Pen and Paint with Sam Scott in New Romney, Kent
Description
Join us for a special Thursday morning watercolour workshop with guest artist Sam Scott, a highly regarded children’s book illustrator, fine artist, and full-time painter celebrated for her expressive and atmospheric work. With multiple published titles, regular gallery exhibitions, and recognition as a finalist in the British Art Prize—chosen from over 30,000 entries—Sam brings a wealth of experience and artistic insight. Her creative talents have also been featured on Landscape Artist of the Year, where she demonstrated her flair for capturing the natural world through a range of mediums. This particular session focuses on the evocative technique of line and wash, combining fluid line drawing with delicate watercolour layers to bring character and atmosphere to your work. Guided by Sam, you’ll explore how to create strong compositions using ink or pen before applying washes that reflect the subtle tones and textures of the subject. The focus will be Prospect Cottage, Derek Jarman’s iconic home on the shingle shores of Dungeness, with its rugged garden and moody coastal backdrop offering the perfect inspiration. Whether you’re just starting out with watercolours or looking to refine your technique, this workshop offers a relaxed and creative environment where you can learn, experiment, and grow in confidence. Sam’s approachable teaching style and professional insight ensure that each participant receives thoughtful, personalised guidance throughout the session.
