Make a Matching Pair of Wooden Candlesticks – Spindle Turning Course
Description
This practical, hands-on course is ideal for woodturners with some experience who want to refine their spindle turning skills through a focused and rewarding project. Over the course of a single day, you’ll learn how to make a matching pair of wooden candlesticks on a lathe — a classic spindle project that will sharpen your ability to replicate forms, control your tools more precisely, and create elegant results. We’ll guide you step by step through: - Preparing your wood blanks for consistent shaping. - Creating your own story stick. - Using calipers and reference points to ensure symmetry. - Turning smooth, clean profiles using gouges and skew chisels. - Sanding and finishing your candlesticks for a polished, professional look. By the end of the day, you'll have created a beautiful, functional pair of candlesticks and gained valuable techniques you can apply to many other spindle projects. This course is great preparation for making sets of table legs, lamps, balusters, or other turned items where matching shapes is essential.

FAQs
The minimum age for woodturning is typically around 12 years old, as long as the young enthusiast is supervised by an adult. It's a fantastic way to spark creativity and learn new skills! With proper guidance, safety measures, and a passion for crafting, youngsters can enjoy this rewarding craft while creating beautiful pieces. However, I do run special 'Kids and Carers 2 Hour Woodturning Taster Session in Berkshire' through the year where children aged 9+ can attend so please book one of these sessions if you're child is between 9 and 12 years old.
