3 Day Jewellery Summer School in Newcastle
Description
Join me for an inspiring 3-day summer school – the perfect way to get into the art of silver jewellery making. This intensive course is designed for complete beginners as well as existing makers who want to refresh their skills in a friendly, creative, and supportive environment. You’ll gain hands-on experience with a wide range of traditional techniques and tools, building a strong foundation in both silversmithing and silver clay work. On the first day, we’ll dive into core silversmithing skills such as sawing, texturing, forming, and soldering. Day two introduces you to the fascinating world of silver clay — a versatile, eco-friendly material made from recycled silver particles, water, and a natural binder. Soft and malleable, it can be rolled, stamped, sculpted, or moulded to create intricate designs. You’ll learn how to shape, refine, and fire your pieces to transform them into pure silver, ready for finishing and polishing. There will be a 1-hour lunch break each day. Please note that, due to health and safety reasons, packed lunches can’t be eaten inside the studio. Instead, you can take a short stroll around Ouseburn and find a spot to enjoy your lunch outdoors, or treat yourself to something delicious at one of the local cafés. You’re also welcome to use your 10% discount voucher at the Biscuit Factory Kitchen for a lovely lite lunch or coffee/tea. Please note that sessions may run slightly over the scheduled end time, depending on the complexity of student designs — it’s a good idea to allow an extra 20 minutes at the end of each day. We’ll also explore how to combine silver clay and traditional silversmithing techniques to create unique, one-of-a-kind jewellery on the final day. Alongside this, you’ll continue developing and expanding your silversmithing skills. Throughout the course, I’ll demonstrate each technique step-by-step, then give you plenty of time to practise and explore at your own pace. My studio is fully equipped with a wide range of tools, and I’ll be there to offer guidance, encouragement, and support whenever needed. By the end of the course, you’ll leave with beautifully handcrafted jewellery, a solid foundation of new skills, and the confidence to continue your jewellery-making journey. Whether you’re looking to explore a new creative outlet or simply enjoy a rewarding break from the everyday, this course offers a fun and enriching experience in the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of my studio in Ouseburn.
