Description
Progging consists of pulling small rectangles of fabric through a hessian base to give a shaggy effect and works well for rugs. You can recycle hard wearing materials, like coats and blankets for a floor rug. Cottons work well for seat mats. Try hooking for pictorial items. Using a rug hook, loops of fabric strips or yarn are pulled up through hessian stretched on a frame. Jenni's teacher was a blacksmith's daughter who made rag rugs for over 50 years and Jenni has enjoyed sharing the craft for years and bringing this traditional craft into the 21st century. She has written Rag Rug Making and More Rag Rugs & Recycled Textile Projects and An Introduction to Rag Rugs, Creative Recycling. The venue is at Hereford Country Bus Station, almost opposite the train station.

Maker
Jenni has shared traditional rag rug techniques of hooking, progging and plaiting for many years. She believes in re-using, sourcing locally and treading lightly on the planet. Whilst bringing rag rug making into the twenty-first century, Jenni honours the generations of ordinary people who used their cast-off clothing to make warm mats and loves helping people to explore their creativity through such an accessible medium at courses locally and around the country.
