Painting With Colour Made Easy

Description

Demystify colour :) Ready to understand what makes a piece of art really come alive? In this focused, hands-on course, I’ll guide you through the essential principles of colour that truly matter — the ones most artists wish they’d learned sooner. You will unlock the secrets to deciding which colours work best together, lead the eye around the painting, improve harmony, and so much more.  This is the second course in my colour painting series, but you needn’t have attended course one. This workshop stands on its own with fresh insights. Why attend my workshop? My classes are practical, designed to slowly and effectively build one learning on top of the next, without overwhelming you with theory. They are interactive, with hands-on demonstrations and plenty of time for painting. Most importantly, they’re a blast—my students learn, laugh, and leave inspired What you'll need: For health reasons, we’ll be working only with acrylic or water-based oils. You’ll need: - 🎨 Paints (student quality are fine, e.g: System 3, Daler Rowney – affordable & great to work with). A minimum palette of 7 colours: - White. - Cadmium red. - Magenta. - Cadmium yellow. - Lemon yellow. - Cyan (or Cerulean). - Ultramarine blue. (200ml or larger tubes are recommended so you can paint freely without worrying about running out!) 🖌 Other essentials: - A large water jar. - A mixing surface (e.g. disposable palette sheets, an old tray with baking paper, or even cardboard plates). - Paintbrushes (both small & large, with varying widths). I recommend at least one wide brush of approx 3-5 inch ferule. - A standard water spray bottle. - An old hairdryer (to speed up drying!) - not essential. - Pencils and/or charcoal. - Your chosen painting surface (acrylic paper, canvas, board, etc.), ideally A3 size or larger.

Andrew developed a deep appreciation of nature during a childhood spent walking and enjoying the wildness of the African landscape. Completing his schooling with awards in Art, he studied Fine Art at the University of Wales, graduating with a first class Honours degree in 2007. Whilst studying, Andrew curated exhibitions and showed his work at local galleries and abroad. He obtained further training from St Martins College London and West Dean College, Chichester. Since then, Andrew’s work has met with critical acclaim and is collected both locally and abroad. Andrew is an elected member of the prestigious Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, as well as the Manchester Academy of Fine Art. Andrew’s work has appeared on the cover of various magazines and catalogues and is regularly selected for the Royal Institute of Oil Painters annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. In 2022, Andrew’s work was selected for the new London Raffles hotel collection. Last year his work won first prize at the Royal Birmingham Society’s Summer Exhibition. And he was recently commissioned to provide work for the Grand Ballroom of the Corinthia Hotel in Bucharest. The spectacular and often wild landscapes of Cheshire and North Wales are a vital influence for his work and so he established his home and studio near Chester.
