Description
Painting with colour is pure joy, but colour theory can feel overwhelming and confusing. That’s why I created this series of courses—to simplify colour with key techniques that ensure confidence in your work. As a professional artist, I’ve refined my understanding of colour over many years and discovered a few core principles which unlock its full potential. Mastering these will free you from confusion and open the door to bold and expressive palettes. On this first course, you will delve into the fascinating world of colour saturation, tints vs shade, composition and the secrets to decode two important Colour Wheels. Be amazed by the easy understanding of warm vs cool colours and how best to use them. For practical reasons we will be using acrylic or water soluble oils. If you’ve never used acrylic before, dont worry. I will get you up-and-running in no time! Throughout the day you will develop paintings of your own, demonstrating your learning of these principles, with my help.
What's included in the price?
My courses are practical, designed to slowly and effectively build one learning on top of the next, without overwhelming you with theory. They are interactive, with hands-on demonstrations and plenty of time for painting. Most importantly, these classes are a blast—my students learn, laugh, and leave inspired! What You Need to Bring: For health reasons, we’ll be working only with Acrylic or Water-Based Oils. You’ll need: 🎨 Paints (Student quality are fine, eg: System 3, Daler Rowney – affordable & great to work with). A minimum palette of 7 colours: White Cadmium Red Magenta Cadmium Yellow Lemon Yellow Cyan (or Cerulean) Ultramarine Blue (200ml or larger tubes are recommended so you can paint freely without worrying about running out!) 🖌 Other essentials: A large water jar A mixing surface (e.g., disposable palette sheets, an old tray with baking paper, or even cardboard plates) Paintbrushes (both small & large, with varying widths). I recommend at least one wide brush of approx 3-5 inch ferule. Andrew is an elected member of the prestigious Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, as well as the Manchester Academy of Fine Art. Andrew’s work has appeared on the cover of various magazines and catalogues and is regularly selected for the Royal Institute of Oil Painters annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. In 2022, Andrew’s work was selected for the new London Raffles hotel collection. Last year his work won first prize at the Royal Birmingham Society’s Summer Exhibition.
