New for 2025 - Drawing for Absolute Beginners in Derbyshire.
Description
Drawing for absolute beginners (and folks told that they weren’t good at art). As a creative tutor, it’s not unusual for me to hear the comment “I can’t draw” or “I’m rubbish at drawing”. Most people tend to be quite negative about their own ability and it’s pretty clear that many of us lack confidence in our ability to draw and record and feel frustrated by this. Having confidence in your ability to draw and record well can be extremely helpful to makers, as drawing provides important structural elements that underpin many processes. It’s likely to enhance the quality of your outcomes and your creative experience and make your “inner teenager” happier. If this is music to your ears and you are nodding in agreement, you just might have found the drawing workshop for you. We will cover: what materials to use and how to use them, how to use different grips, the types of paper available and when to use them and how drawings are simply an arrangement of marks. We’ll draw from primary and secondary sources of natural forms, i.e. the real thing and drawings/photos of an object and see how this differs. You’ll also understand the difference between line and tonal drawings, creating both types, whilst working at different scales and using a range of materials. We’ll take it slowly, and in the afternoon you might like to start something new or return to one of the morning tasks. This workshop will suit makers who lack confidence in their ability to draw or were told not to take ‘O' level or GCSE art, and wish to develop their skills, confidence and a joy for drawing. Please bring along: an apron, a newspaper or an A3 folder to transport your work home. You might also like bring along drawing materials of your own that you’d like to explore. About the tutor: Liz Wellby is a versatile and experienced artist, teacher and maker, with a particular interest in sculpture and printmaking. Following the completion of a Fine Arts degree at Loughborough University and subsequent post graduate studies, she returned to Derbyshire, where for over 30 years she has lived and worked. Liz now lives and works in a small village on the edge of the Peak District, kept company by her husband and a cat called Bert. It is possible to arrange this workshop on different dates: should you wish to book 3 to 5 places for friends and family, the cost is £95 per person or £135 each for 2 people. Please contact me via ‘message the tutor’ if this is of interest or you have any questions or queries.
What's included in the price?
