Description
Join me for a creative and inspiring day in a beautiful countryside location, and learn how to hand-print your own nature inspired cyanotype fabric and transform it into a unique, handcrafted lampshade. Combining two crafts in one day, this workshop is perfect for anyone curious about traditional printmaking techniques or looking to add a personal touch to their home décor. 10.00 - Welcome 10:30 - Cyanotype Printmaking on Fabric 13.00 - Lunch Break 14:00 - Lampshade Making Craft 16:30 - Finish In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to make cyanotypes on fabric, one of the earliest photographic printing techniques, dating back to the 19th century. I’ll share examples of what's possible, and I'll guide you through the process whilst you practice on a sample swatch of the lampshade fabric. Once you are feeling confident with the process, you can enjoy getting creative with the design for your lampshade. Using a selection of wildflowers, leaves, feathers, and other natural materials, you’ll design and create a cyanotype print on fabric. In the afternoon session you’ll learn how to construct a professional quality drum lampshade using your handprinted fabric. You’ll leave with a finished piece that’s one-of-a-kind, plus the skills to create more at home.

Maker
I’m an artist and printmaker based in the North West, where I run creative workshops in arts, crafts, and traditional printmaking techniques. I began my printmaking journey in 2017, whilst living and working in London. After more than two decades in fast-paced agencies creating for big-name clients, I burned out. The pressure and pace left little room for real creativity, and I found myself craving something slower, more tactile, and deeply human. Printmaking brought me back to life. I first immersed myself in screenprinting at Print Club London, where pulling ink through a screen by hand taught me to slow down and reconnect with the art of making. In 2020, I returned to my hometown of Manchester and joined Hot Bed Press Printmakers in Salford, where I now have a studio and teach cyanotype workshops, combining traditional techniques with natural dyes and tannins. Printmaking helped me reconnect with the creative freedom I’d felt as a child, and later enjoyed so much during Art Foundation. In 2022, I founded Handmade Being as a space to share my knowledge and skills with anyone who has a desire to be more creative. My workshops, often inspired by nature, are designed to bring beauty into everyday spaces while encouraging people to slow down, work with their hands, and rediscover the satisfaction of making something one-of-a-kind, handcrafted, and real. Whether you’re returning to creativity or just starting out, I’d love to welcome you on one of my workshops.

While it’s always lovely to use natural sunlight to develop our cyanotype prints, we know the UK weather can be unpredictable. Don’t worry — we’ve got a plan B! If the sun doesn’t make an appearance, we’ll use UV lamps instead. These allow us to create beautiful prints all year round, whatever the weather.
Workshops are kept to a small group size, with a maximum of 6 people. This allows me to give each participant more individual attention and feedback, ensuring you get the most from your workshop experience.
