Cosy covers: hand embroidery with Rachel Davies.
Description
During this relaxed full day workshop you will create a folk-art inspired cover for a hardback note book (supplied for you). Using preloved blankets and felted woolly jumpers, you will choose your colours and work step-by-step to embellish your cover. Suitable for beginners with little sewing experience, you will be shown: Lazy Daisy, French knots and Fly stitch as well as simple applique. I will demonstrate each stage as we go along, including how to split stranded embroidery threads and how to create the stitches in a personal way, so that each notebook cover looks different. Once the embroidery is finished, it is folded to size onto the notebook and secured with a blanket stitch border. These skills are transferable and once you have produced your book cover you will be able to adapt the idea at home, to cover iPads or tablets, with the same techniques. The workshop is intended to be very relaxed and easy, yet quite unique in its approach to traditional hand embroidery, celebrating sustainability and preloved textiles, utilised in a contemporary way.
