Coastal Weaving with Sarah Holloway

X

Description

Come and spend a morning creating your own weaving, inspired by the colours and textures of the sea and coast. This will take place in The Discovery Room at Oriel Y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre on the edge of St David's, Pembrokeshire in West Wales. It's not far from the sea and Oriel Y Parc is a beautiful and innovative eco building and an inspiring place to visit in itself. You will learn the basics of weaving, as well as have the opportunity to learn a variety of weaving techniques and to practice them on a simple table-top wooden frame loom, using a bodkin needle to weave with. This will be a morning of building up colour, tone and texture and you will come away with your own mini hand made creative weaving, which you can display as a wall hanging. This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as those with some experience who want to experiment further.

What's included in the price?

There will be pieces of driftwood for you to choose from to hang your weaving on, or you may like to beach comb for your own. There will also be mixed media such as beads, buttons and shells to add and you are welcome to bring any of your own favourite wool, threads, etc. There will be plenty of visual resources to help inspire you, including imagery by other weavers. You will be given an information sheet with some historical context and weaving terminology, as well as links to weaving resources.
