Description

Wednesday mornings - 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th June and 2nd July 2025 Our 5-Week Wheel Throwing Course is great for anyone who is a complete beginner to working with clay and is interested in learning how to throw their own pots, or anyone who has been working with slab building and is looking to expand their clay skills. Whilst on our 3 week wheel throwing course you take the wheel home with you in this class the wheels stay at The Studio. During your first class Andrea will take you through the basic skills needed to throw on the wheel, such as clay preparation, centring the clay and pulling up a cylindrical shape (a key part of throwing as this is the basis for all wheel thrown ceramic pieces). In the second lesson we will revisit all of these techniques, in addition to learning how to 'turn' the bottom of your pots. Lessons 3 and 4 will evolve at your own pace to be a combination of throwing, 1-2-1 tuition, turning your pots and refining and growing your ever expanding throwing skills. This time will be used addressing any issues that you have encountered with Andrea sharing tips on how to overcome them. Andrea will also teach you how to make useful additions to your pieces, such as adding handles and lips, to change your pots into mugs or jugs. Included in the price of this course is also the opportunity to have 6 of the pots you have made during the course clear glazed and fired. Any additional pieces can be finished/fired by for an additional fee. If you wish for us to fire more then do ask us for our kiln charges sheet which details cost per size of item.
